The Chapel Digest - AUGUST 2024

Return to Routine

As summer winds down and kids head back to school, many of us return to a more consistent routine. Carefree summer mornings are replaced by alarm clocks, bus pickups, car drop-offs, and detailed scheduling. The extra trips, vacations, and other weekly interruptions disappear as we embrace a more regimented schedule.

As a child, I hated this time of year. I loved the freedom of summer, the absence of homework, and more time with my friends and family. It was painful to think it was all coming to an end. A small part of me still feels that end-of-summer pit in my stomach as my kids transition back into school mode. Even though it's been decades since I've enjoyed a monthslong summer break, I still love summer. I love the time with my kids; I love the changes in pace and place.

Over the years, I have learned to love the return of routine that comes with the school year. I enjoy knowing that everyone will be in the same places, doing the same things, week after week. I appreciate how the weekday routine creates a weekend routine. And I appreciate the opportunity to reevaluate our priorities each school year start provides.

August is more than a return to school; it is a New Year’s 2.0. The reintroduction of routine offers us a chance to evaluate how we spend our time and energy. The change of pace permits us to make needed changes. If this time of year marks a significant change in your schedule, take a few moments to ask God to help you evaluate your investments and make sure your daily and weekly routines honor Him.

Local Missions

Andrea Jannasch - Good News Club

My name is Andrea Jannasch, and I started helping with Good News Club in January of 2021. Because of COVID, we were the only after-school club offered at the time, so we had a very large group of children attending each week. Though we only had four regular volunteers, by God's grace, we had a successful club that semester. We competed with other after-school clubs the following two years, so we had slightly smaller attendance, but we could do much more with the students. For example, we started having small groups, allowing precious time to share the Gospel and pray with the kids one-on-one.

I love being part of Good News Club because I share the Gospel each week with kids who likely will never hear it anywhere else. We are planting seeds the Lord can and will use to bring fruit into these kids’ lives in due season. We also build relationships with the teachers and staff, sharing God’s love with them and helping them to have a positive view of Christians.

Volunteering with the Good News Club is a small investment of time, but it reaps great dividends for Christ’s kingdom!

You could be part of a unique ministry presenting the Gospel to children worldwide for 87 years. Good News Club is a ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship in which trained volunteers meet with groups of children in schools, homes, community centers, or churches. At Christian Chapel, volunteers have been holding this after-school club in Tulsa Public Schools for 20 children each week who do not go to church or even know fundamental Biblical truths. Less than 20 clubs exist in northeastern Oklahoma. The only limitation is volunteers. Could you join our team in leading the lost children of Tulsa to know Jesus as their Savior?

Recipe of the month

Christian Chapel started in 1974 and since then, the traditions and community has grown into the wonderful church it is today! Through the years, we have released cookbooks at different anniversary points. You might remember the 25th anniversary cookbook, or the 35th anniversary cookbook, or even more recently the 40th anniversary cookbook! We are thrilled to announce we will be releasing the 50th anniversary cookbook this year in September and from now until then, we will be publishing a Recipe Of The Month in each Digest.
